7 KIDS Completes Life Saving MB with a BANG!

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

Fire Chief/WB holder/JRS/WASAR Instructor Phil A. Jamero conducted a 1-day Life Saving MB Completion Test at Le Reve Resort, Kisante, Makilala with 10 participants in attendance last April 3, 2011. 7 Eagle aspirants completed the Life Saving Merit Badge while 3 others had their first session on lifesaving.

The Scouts were tested first on their swimming skills before the lifesaving methods and techniques. Ring and line rescue method and other non-swim techniques (having lesser risk especially those less skilled swimmers) were given greater emphasis.

The Scouts where subjected to an actual rescue when a young boy and girl playing, both non-swimmers, was noticed to be distress about 5 meters from the pool gutter. Venture Scout Anna Louella S. Toledo, the strongest swimmer among the trainees, responded quickly to save the girl and soon, with the help of Sir Phil, brought both children safety.

Sir Phil is Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) Instructor recently trained at Philippine Fire National Training Institute, Camp Vicente Lim, Laguna.
